Leanne Schnepp

Stoneware clay, stained, glazed, and molded to create human and animals forms, are my primary material and subject-matter. Recently, the addition of welded steel elements has allowed the ability to express new ideas and structures that were more difficult with clay alone.

The integration of animal and human forms, whether through the combination of separate elements or the addition of specific characteristics of each has fueled my body of work. As figures are built, their personalities are communicated and enhanced through the addition of birds, smaller figures, or other animals. Forms interact to tell their own stories and communicate their own messages. This is all done in the act of enjoyment and play.
